Description of the project

Built in 1973, Amsteldok, formerly known as Rivierstaete, is a mixed-use facility in Amsterdam. In 2013, the building was mostly empty and looking dated. In the renovation project, MVSA Architects have transformed the existing building to blend in more with its surroundings. The eight-floor Rivierstaete structure was originally covered with millions of white tiles and the windows were relatively narrow. These are now replaced by floor-to-ceiling glass frontages. The open glazed façade helps create a pleasant, healthy working environment, with more natural daylight for building occupants, while allowing the outside world to catch a glimpse of the interior life of the facility and help occupants feel closer to their surroundings. Guardian SunGuard® SuperNeutral (SN) 40/23 and SN 62/34 solar control glass products were chosen for the glazed façade. These double silver coated glass products offer high natural light transmission and help minimize the need for artificial light, while offering excellent solar protection and thermal insulation. SN 40/23 has a sophisticated neutral reflected and transmitted color. SN 62/34 offers a very light neutral grey appearance and has since been upgraded to Guardian SunGuard® SN 63
