Description of the project

The Auditorio de Palma de Mallorca congress center and hotel sits on Palma’s waterfront parallel to the beach. Designed by Mangado & Asociados SL, the stunning looking structure follows the seafront and is a landmark in the cityscape, together with the castle and cathedral. The building itself is almost part of the sea promenade. A facade frames views from inside, but also acts as a huge louvre that helps control the amount of sunlight reaching the interior spaces. It also connects the building’s various levels and uses.

The glazing chosen for the south-facing façade is made of Guardian SunGuard® Solar Light Blue 52 for the external pane. This solar control glass with a light blue color contributes to lowering the solar energy that enters the building through the glazing, thus helping to reduce the demand on air conditioning. It is combined with Guardian ClimaGuard® 1.0 for the inner pane, which provides thermal insulation properties during the colder months. Other parts of the same façade look like holes as the glass is closer to the inside of the building. The glass chosen for these parts is Guardian SunGuard High Performance (HP) Neutral 50/32, which contrasts well with the light blue glass. HP Neutral 50/32 provides both solar control and thermal insulation properties, with a uniform and neutral color.
